Blacksmith (smithy now tumble-down) with smallholding, owned existing Pendarves Arms Inn, Gwinear.
Richard adopted his illegitimate son Thomas Vivian who went to live with his father and changed his name to Hambly. This is borne out by documents of Richard's, who although illiterate was quite astute: In 1868 he sent his only grandson to make his fortune in the Manchester area.
After his son's death he went to live with this grandson at St Annes, where he died in 1877 age 88. He is buried at Kersal although he is on a memorial with his wife, near a brother, at Gwinear.
His son Thomas probably took over from his father as blacksmith, but was not so careful and never well-off. He had a claim on a mine (of which the paperwork survives), but never followed it up.

Richard married Sarah VIVIAN.
