THE PRISONER RESIEGH MARTIN.-A petition has been prepared (the Herald says) for presentation to the Minister of Justice with the view of asking the Government to move his Excellency the Governor to exercise his perogative by ordering the immediate release of Reseigh Martin, sentenced on Monday last to two years' hard labour for having written a letter the jury found to be libellous, concerning Mr. Eddy, the chairman of the Railway Commissioners. The grounds set forth in the petition why, in the opinion of the petitioners, the prisoner should be released, are that there was an entire absence at the trial of any proof of malice, that the accused had no personal object to serve by writing as he did, that he did not know Mr. Eddy personally, and that there was not one tittle of evidence to show the accused had even a'faint suspicion that what he wrote was not true.

Reseigh married Grace Catherine MACDONALD in 1870 in Gippsland VIC. (Grace Catherine MACDONALD died in 1905 in St Peters NSW.)
