Walter SPICER

  Noted events in his life were:

• Occupation. Walter and Jemima Spicer's eldest child Augusta was born at the tiny hamlet of Bedchester. They later had Red Lion Inn Bourton which acted as village's Post Office). The Huttons lived late 1850s at Hunters Lodge Inn, Penselwood, and then spent ten years as innkeeper Downside Inn, Shepton Mallet. Around 1867 Henry took a position as farm bailiff in the village of Tandridge near the Surrey town of Godstone. His father-in-law Walter (a freemason) settled with them in the area, which included a home for elderly masons, and died 1873. Augusta's younger sister Adah was married to a Godstone farmer [Prikler]. Ten years or so later the family moved to Whyteleaf in the Caterham Valley at Warlingham where Henry became a cattle dealer. He died there aged 47 from a heart condition, his place of burial is not known. Source: T Ridley
