Morriston

Rodda
Family

We found these names in the family bible:
Thomas Rodda died 17 January 1864
Richard Rodda died 27 November 1875
Jane Reynolds died 2 March 1870 (of TB)
But who were they? It seems Richard and Jane were the children of Thomas, a miner who had left Cornwall and come to live in Morriston.

We obtained Thomas's will. You can see two things.  Joseph Faull, a farmer wrote it on lined paper and Thomas made a very shaky mark pressing so the nib divides into two.  The paper was folded and put in Faull's pocket - you can see the fold, plus the ink blot to the right of Rodda's name.

Rodda left his Cornish property to his nine grandchildren, to be looked after by William Blewett, copperminer at Leedstown, Cornwall.  A grandson Thomas Rodda Lathlean was a collier living in Vicarage Road - his grandson Sidney was living there in the 1980s.

Here is a photograph of William Blewett with some of his family.  The photo was taken in Cornwall.

(Jane Harris - my ancestress would be a niece of Thomas Rodda)
